What To Do With Your Wedding Stationery After The Big Day?

Once the confetti’s settled and the cake’s all gone, there’s a lot left over from your wedding day, including all that lovely wedding stationery. Trust me, I know the post-wedding blues all too well, and keeping busy is the best cure. That’s exactly what I did after mine.

You might be looking at that pile of wedding stationery thinking it’s just clutter. But hold on! These items were a part of one of the most special days of your life, and they certainly don’t have to be a waste.

The wedding stationery left over from your big day may include:

  • Save the dates
  • Invitations
  • RSVPs
  • Menus
  • Place Name Cards or Chair Labels
  • Table Names or Table Numbers
  • Wedding Welcome Sign
  • Timeline Sign
  • Order of Service
  • Thank You Cards
  • Favour Labels
  • Wax Seals
  • Sticker Seals
  • Envelopes
  • Ribbon
  • Favour Labels
  • Seating Plan

I’m sure there will be many other wedding stationery bits and bobs I’ve forgotten, but one thing’s for certain, these hold a huge purpose even after the big day.

Wedding stationery is one of the few truly versatile aspects of your wedding. Unlike a wedding dress or a groomsman’s suit that will either be sold on or tucked away in a wardrobe, never to be seen again for years, your wedding stationery is a different kettle of fish altogether. It’s something you can treasure and revisit with ease.

Let’s delve into the many uses for your wedding stationery and how to keep those memories sparkling. Here are some ideas for what you can do with any leftover bits and pieces:

Frame It

For those smaller wedding stationery items, like your save the dates and especially your invitations, they’re the first glimpses of your wedding day. These announcements to your guests hold more weight than you might think. They’re the very starting point of your happily ever after.

Framing them to match your wedding theme or even your home décor is a brilliant idea. That way, you can keep it somewhere special in your house, a constant reminder to cherish. Whether it’s on a shelf in the living room, your desk at work, the mantelpiece, or your bedside table, it’ll be there for you to admire whenever you fancy a trip down memory lane.

And it’s not just for you! Framed save the dates or invitations can be a lovely sentimental gift for your parents or close friends who helped make your wedding day so special. They’ll appreciate having a tangible piece of your celebration to display in their own homes.

Make A Collage

Calling all crafty folks! If you enjoy a bit of DIY, then why not create a wedding collage? Here are two I made from my own big day. I used save the dates, invitations, eucalyptus leaves (lovely touch!), and even well wishes from the guests. It’s a real talking point in my conservatory, and I absolutely adore it!

Every time I glance at these collages, a big grin spreads across my face. I can still remember putting them together, and it filled me with joy as I relived one of the happiest days of life.

It’s not just for photos, you can personalise your collage any way you like. Add in fabric swatches from your dress, ribbons from your bouquet, or even a little dried confetti. It’s a fantastic way to capture all those special little details that made your wedding unique, and a wonderful keepsake to treasure for years to come.

So grab your favourite crafting supplies, unleash your inner artist, and get creating! Your personalised wedding collage will be a cherished reminder of your special day, bringing a smile to your face for years to come.

Keepsake Box

After the big day, we found ourselves with quite a few leftover wedding invitations, sticker seals, and bits of stationery. Rather than throw them out, which was something I wouldn’t have wanted to do, I decided to pop the bits that wouldn’t be going in a frame or collage into a lovely keepsake box to treasure them all together.

It’s a wonderful little time capsule, filled with reminders of all the planning, excitement, and of course, the love that went into our special day. Every time I open it, I’m transported back to the buzz of choosing our design, the anticipation of sending out the invites, and the relief of finally having everything perfect for the wedding. It’s a treasure trove of happy memories!

I have kept more than just the leftover wedding stationery in my keepsake box, I have kept back the ties from the groomsmen, the button holes, the decoration used on my Dads car to get us to the church, and so much more. I even keep all of the wedding cards we had from friends and family in the keepsake box. I like to take a look every so often and recall who came to our special day.

But the box isn’t just for me. It’s a shared piece of our history, waiting to be rediscovered with future generations. We can imagine showing our children (or even grandchildren!) the invitations and explaining the design choices, or letting them giggle at the slightly outdated fonts we thought were so trendy at the time. It’s a way to keep the magic of the wedding alive and create a tangible connection to a very special day.

So, if you find yourself with a few leftover wedding bits and bobs, consider creating your own keepsake box. It might just become a cherished family heirloom, filled with love and laughter for years to come.

Put Into An Album

Instead of just the photos in your wedding album, why not tuck a copy of your wedding invitation alongside them? That way, whenever you flick through your album and revisit those beautiful pictures, you can journey back through the entire experience.

From the excitement of planning the perfect day, choosing every detail, to the nerves and joy of the ceremony itself, the invitation will be a lovely reminder of the journey that led to your happily ever after.

The invitation itself might hold special significance. Perhaps it featured a unique design or a meaningful quote that resonated with you both. Maybe it was even handmade by a loved one! Having it nestled amongst your photos will be a sweet reminder of those thoughtful touches that made your wedding so personal.

You can add any items from your wedding stationery collection into your wedding album. Tuck away the RSVP card that captured your guests’ well wishes, or the charming menu that showcased your chosen dishes. Even the elegant place cards, with your loved ones’ names lovingly written, can be a delightful addition. These little treasures will transport you back to the sights, sounds, and emotions of your special day, making your album a rich tapestry of memories.

Photograph It

Many wedding photographers love creating styled flat lays showcasing your stationery alongside your bouquet, cufflinks, and other special details. These photographs make beautiful additions to your wedding album. Simply chat with your wedding stationery designer and photographer about incorporating this into your plans.

Beyond these beautiful styled shots on your wedding day, consider requesting photographs of your invitations, RSVPs, save the dates, and any other wedding stationery designs sent to guests already. These photographs add a personal touch and help tell the story of your wedding journey. If you speak to your photographer before hand, I am sure they will be happy to accommodate.

For an even more unique touch, consider incorporating heirloom items or sentimental pieces into your flat lay. This could be a family locket, a handwritten love letter from your partner, or a treasured handkerchief. These personal touches will add a layer of meaning and create photographs that you’ll cherish forever.

So don’t forget to discuss flat lay photography with your wedding photographer! With a little planning and creativity, you can capture stunning and personal details that will make your wedding album truly special.

For Bigger Items

When I talk about the bigger items, I mean your seating plan, your timeline sign, your welcome sign, and all of those bigger wedding stationery bits.

I actually hung my seating plan on the wall, so that every time I walk down the stairs, I see it there, and it reminds of my wedding day, and it takes me back to organising where everyone was sat.

It might sound a bit sentimental, keeping the seating plan up, but it’s more than just a reminder of the day itself. It’s a lovely little snapshot of all the effort that went into planning. Seeing it there makes me appreciate the thought that went into every detail, from finding the perfect table layout to placing each guest card just so. It’s a tangible piece of the magic that made our wedding so special.

Please excuse the photographs, these are actual photos of my wedding seating plan, framed and hung above my stairs, so they are not the best photographs I have ever taken.

Other Options

Print The Designs Onto A Pillow

An option that some people may not think about when it comes to a great keepsake for your wedding stationery, is getting them printed on a pillow. I know, not the most common of choices, but I have seen people do it.

It could be your wedding invitation, your save the date, your menu, your RSVP, the list goes on when it comes to which wedding stationery item to have printed onto a pillow, but non-the-less, what a great idea.

Have A Digital Version

I believe it’s always a fantastic idea to have digital copies of your wedding stationery designs for your own records. After all, the more keepsakes you have, and in different formats, the better!

As a wedding stationery designer, I’m always happy to provide my couples with a digital version of their suite.

The Watercolour Blue suite. You will see a folded wedding invitation within this image, shown open and closed, accompanied by flowers, bridal hair accessories, ribbon and a wax seal.

Chopping Board

Something that I think is a brilliant idea, is getting your wedding stationery printed in the form of a chopping board! What a great idea. So, every time you are prepping for dinner, you will be reminded of your wedding day. Plus it becomes a beautiful and functional keepsake that you will treasure for years to come.

Christmas Bauble

I have seen some brilliant crafters out there cut a spare wedding save the date or wedding invitation up into strips, and then put these into a bauble ready to be hung on the tree. It is not something I have personally tried, but I think this is such a lovely idea that I wanted to share this with you all.
